On restraint, in five materials
An essay on quietness as a discipline — five materials we return to, and what they have taught us about leaving space.

Restraint, in fragrance, is not the absence of material — it is the courage to remove what is unnecessary. Below, five materials we return to, and what each has taught us about the value of space.
1. Iris
Iris does not announce itself. It settles into the skin and waits to be noticed. We use it as a structural note, never a top — its work is best done in shadow.
2. White musk
The smallest gesture, in a base. It is the silence between notes, the white of the page.
